Advanced Portable Freeware Windows Clipboard Manager

What is Windows Clipboard?

The Windows Clipboard is like a scratch pad available to Windows and all running applications. It allows pieces of information to be temporarily stored and then retrieved later by another application. Say you’re writing a report and you see a bit of text on a website that you want to include in your report. You can copy that piece of text to the Windows Clipboard and then when you’re ready paste it into your document.

Many people use the Windows Clipboard all the time without even realising it. The Clipboard is where stuff goes when you select Edit/Copy, press CTRL-C, or right click and select Copy from the pop up context sensitive menu. When you Cut you’re also putting that data on the Windows Clipboard. The difference is that the data is also deleted from the source document.

Windows Clipboard Problems

The Windows Clipboard has a few shortfalls:

* Only one item stored at a time
* Each new copy replaces the last
* Clips are not remembered between sessions
* You can’t easily preview data in the Windows Clipboard

To overcome the noted limitations in the existing Windows Operating Systems, you can use one of the free third-party developed utilities enhancing the Windows Clipboard functionality to the point that it becomes useful for day-to-day operational tasks.

ArsClip Freeware Portable Clipboard Manager

People who often type documents with repetitive text, such as paralegals and the like, would likely find the enhanced clipboard management utility ArsClip useful. Its ability to store long strings of text, accessible via hot key, could be helpful to computer programmers and others who work with complicated code.

This little program monitors the Windows clipboard and stores text that you copy or cut. You can copy the stored text into any application from within the program, or by using hot keys that you define.

You can also configure ArsClip to track and store images ("non-text items").

ArsClip doesn’t need to be installed. Just download the .zip file and uncompress it into its own folder, then double-click on the executable to run the program. When ArsClip is running, a new icon appears in the taskbar. You can right-click the icon to access ArsClip functions and settings, or press Ctrl-Shift-Z from within any application for a pop-up menu.

ArsClip remembers the last 15 (default) or more text entries entered into the Window’s clipboard and can be configured to monitor non-text items.
