Buddi - Free Financial and Budgeting Program
Buddi is a personal finance and budgeting program, aimed at those who have little or no financial background. In making this software, authors have attempted to make things as simple as possible, while still retaining enough functions to satisfy most home users.
Buddi is released as Open Source Software. You can download it for free, with no disabled features and no time limit. Buddi will run on almost any computer which has a Java virtual machine installed. This can include Windows, Macintosh OS X, Linux, and many other operating systems.
Buddi provides a simple interface with 3 tabs for Accounts, Budgets and Reports. The edit menu changes based on the tab you are in. For instance, you can find Add/modify/delete accounts options when you are in “Accounts” tab and budgeting options when you are in Budget options. You can run reports based on your transactions like incomes and expenses.
One other feature with Buddi is that you can add third party plugins developed for Buddi to provide enhancements and addon features. For instance, there is a nice Dashboard plugin available to display updated graphs on your finance. To install plugins, click Edit - Preferences - Plugins. From here add the downloaded plugin file (unzip the file)
The Buddi data file can be encrypted and saved to ensure security should it end up in wrong hands.
Creating an Account is pretty simple, click Edit and select Create Account, fill in some details such as Account name, type, and starting balance. Fill in some notes if any and click OK.
The account will immediately be created (see screenshot below). You can add as many accounts as you want.
You can create a new category by going to My Budget tab and then Edit > Create Budget Category(you can create multiple categories). You can begin managing your budget by adding the total salary and then adding all the expenses. The net income is shown at bottom right side of the screen.
You can also manage your budget by per week, month, quarter, or year. By default it is set to per month. If you want to see your reports on finance, click My Reports tab and select the desired option from there.
