6 Free Tarot Reading Utilities

I got inquiry from one of the blog readers of what is the best Tarot Reading free utility for Windows operating system.

For those who are unfamiliar with Tarot, here is a brief presentation:

What is Tarot?

To people unfamiliar with divination, it may seem that someone who reads Tarot cards is “predicting the future.” However, most Tarot card readers will tell you that the cards offer a guideline, and the reader is simply interpreting the probable outcome based upon the forces presently at work.

Anyone can learn to read Tarot cards, but it does take some practice. It’s a highly intuitive process, so while books and charts come in handy, the best way to actually learn what your cards mean is to handle them, hold them, and feel what they are telling you.

Tarot Decks

There are hundreds of different Tarot decks available. Some are based upon famous artwork, movies, books, legends, mythology, and even movies. Choose a deck that feels right for you.

If you’re not sure which deck is the best one for you, and you’re a beginning Tarot reader, pick up the Rider Waite deck. It is the one used most often as illustration in Tarot instruction books, and it’s a fairly easy system to learn. Later on, you can always add new decks to your collection.

About The Cards

A Tarot deck consists of 78 cards. The first 22 cards are the Major Arcana. These cards have symbolic meanings focused on the material world, the intuitive mind, and the realm of change. The remaining 56 cards are the Minor Arcana, and are divided into four groups or suits: Swords, Pentacles (or Coins), Wands and Cups.

Each of the four suits focuses on a theme. Sword cards generally indicate conflict or moral issues, while Cups reflect matters of emotion and relationships. Coins focus on the material aspects of life, such as security and finance, while Wands represent things like jobs, ambition, and activity.

How Do Tarot Cards Work?

Any experienced Tarot reader will tell you that reading cards is an intuitive process. Like any other form of divination, the cards become a focal point for your own psychic abilities. There is any number of different spreads, or layouts, which can be used in a Tarot reading. Some readers use elaborate layouts, while others may just pull out three to five cards and see what they need to see.

One of the most popular layouts is the Celtic Cross method. Other well-known spreads include the Tree of Life layout, the Romany spread, and the Zodiac method. You can also create your own layout, like the Pentagram Spread.

Software

After the brief online investigation, I can offer the following software utilities which can be downloaded:

1. Oracle

Oracle is a freeware program for all kinds of oracles. This is a program for Itjing, Tarot cards or other spread methods. You can define or 'plug in' your own deck of cards as well as your own spread methods, the program is highly configurable.

Spreads are automatically saved; at startup the last spread is always displayed. When more than 50 spreads are saved, the oldest ones are deleted.

Quick start:  To do a spread with cards, first select a deck in the Deck menu. When you first install Oracle, the Aquatic deck is active. You can see the number of cards in the deck, for a tarot deck this is always 78. Then choose a spread in the Spread menu. The first card is shown and the program waits for a key press or a mouse click, and then the subsequent cards are drawn. Cards can be moved around with the mouse. A double click on a card in a spread will show that card full size. Press F4 or escape to go back to the spread.

Mostly text fields and the like can be sized with the mouse. If the toolbar is visible (see Settings - Show Toolbar) you will see two edit boxes with arrows. The left one changes the size of cards, the right one changes the width of cards.

2. Edinamarry Free Tarot Software

Edinamarry brings to you an open Tarot Scribe Kit by which you can create your own Tarot Deck, design and configure Tarot Spread Projects, and you can write your own readings and afterwards share your Tarot Deck and Spreads on Internet. Read Tarot through your own custom designed Tarot Spreads, and choose Cards from your own custom designed Tarot Deck!

Reversed Cards feature, Client and Customer Profiles features have been added in the latest software release. You can find answers to your questions with Tarot through Divinity, and Edinamarry is just built for this purpose. Edinamarry comes with a default Tarot Database. Tarot Decks are editable. Tarot Spreads too are editable. I am sure that you would be satisfied with the brief knowledgeable content of Edinamarry. You can print the reading results, and you can store the result as a file on your PC.

There is a built-in integrated specialized Writepad in Edinamarry in which you can type your thoughts, and you can save your typed content which includes readings on chance, into Windows Write Format files .rtf. Similarly, there's automatic Software Update Tool which can be used to automatically Update Edinamarry to the latest Version. Tarot Spreads can be easily designed in Tarot Spreads Designer Tool. Tarot Decks are edited in Tarot Deck Builder/Editor Tool. A Tarot Deck can contain multiple Tarot Spreads. The reading for any specific Tarot Spread is prepared through a Wizard. New Spreads and Decks are prepared through the Wizards. Tarot Readings and all other Text can be printed through Word Editor Tool. The readings are stored in Database based on User Account and the Client Profile. These readings can be previewed later. A single instance of Edinamarry works within any specific User Account. There's much more.

3. MB Free Tarot Reading Software

MB Free Tarot Reading Software gives you all the necessary tools for you to investigate the full and detailed meaning of the Tarot cards from your computer screen.

MB Free Tarot Reading Software allows you to introduce any kind of question or concern through your keyboard. In just a few seconds, the virtual "tarotist" processes your entry and gives you an answer.
The result is not random, but it depends on the cards and the deck that you have chosen by chance. After making your reading, the application gives you a complete report of what you got.

MB Free Tarot Reading Software is an interesting alternative for you to take the Tarot to your PC.

4. Varot – VirtualTarot

Varot includes nine sets of Tarot: Bird, Birthday, Career, Celtic Cross, Dark Moon, Horseshoe, Calender, Three Card, and Triskele. It allows you to edit the divinatory meanings of the cards and record comments in a database that you can consult as you want. The deck is based on the Colmon-Smith tarot deck. You may save your readings into a mini database.

5. Free Tarot

Small program for personal Tarot readings. Hold your query in mind while clicking 5 cards, then the Tarot reading will display. The readings are under five headings; 1) What you have to do, 2) What plays against you, 3) Who will judge, 4) The sentence will be, and 5) Summarizing. I personally found these unusual headings to be surprisingly definitive of the query I had in mind.  A No-Install program, unzip the download and double click on the FreeTarot.exe file.

6. Tarot

The utility is based on the Rider deck (78) with 7 Spreads. Card interpretations and spreads can be modified. Spreads can be saved and reloaded. Utility provides multiple other settings, which can be modified. I Ching included. Utility is characterized with nice interface, and is very user-friendly.
